Arguably the "only civilized place to stay" in the area, this East Bay hotel with French-château architecture, a three-story domed lobby and a "friendly staff" lures loyalists who also like the heated indoor pool and fitness facilities; but nitpickers nix the "dated rooms" and "way too small spa", saying it's time to "remodel" this "suburban" spot.

Beautiful hotel. Furnishings and landscape well done. Very quiet. Friendly staff.
Room had an underlying scent suggestive of smoke. Perhaps room used to be smoking or someone smoked in the room. Not bad enough to change rooms.

Spotlessly clean rooms, quiet, friendly staff.
The Duck Club restaurant is strictly average with fair food and fair service.
Excellent hotel. Clean, comfortable, with helpful, friendly but not overbearing staff. Spotless rooms with nice little amenities like a pleasant CD player complete with instrumental CD for those not interested in the standard radio/TV music, ads and news of the day. Would skip the restaurant unless you can't get away to much better, less expensive food in nearby Lafayette. ...read more
